Minor Changes to Facebook Sharing

Hey everyone,

We made a minor change this morning to the way you can share your udorsements to Facebook.  Previously, if you udorsed a photo form one of your Facebook albums that had friends tagged in it, we'd ask you if you wanted to post the udorsement on those friends' walls.  But Facebook has recently changed their policy for how applications like Udorse are allowed to post to users' walls.  Specifically,
When asking users to publish a Feed story, do not use a friend selector or other means to select more than one friend at a time:
"You must not provide users with the option to publish the same Feed story to more than one friend’s Wall at a time." (DPP VI.A.2)
So from now on we won't be asking you to post to your friends' walls when you udorse Facebook photos that they're tagged in.  Your new udorsements will still be posted to your activity stream for your friends to see when you check the 'Share to Facebook' box on the new udorsement screen:

You can read the full post announcing the change at Facebook's developer blog.

Have fun!

Modifications to the Scoring System

Hi everyone!

We're working closely with users to fine-tune the way points are awarded on Udorse. More changes to come, but in the meantime we've made the the following changes:

  • Instead of a 25 point bonus for adding a second hotword, you get the bonus after your first.  We want to make it easier to earn that reward, and encourage users to add a hotword to their udorsements even if they can't come up with two.
  • The first two hotwords remain worth a base three points, but hotwords beyond the first two don't automatically score points any more.  Users were saying they felt like every non-hotword in their udorsement was a waste of characters, and we don't want to provide a disincentive to write out a descriptive caption instead of just a string of tags.
More changes coming soon!  Have fun!

New! E-mail Submission

Hi everyone,

We're happy to announce that you can now post Udorsements on the go, by sending them in via e-mail! Everyone has a private e-mail address they can send their udorsements to. You can find yours by going to the settings page and scrolling down until you see this:

You create a new udorsement by sending an e-mail to the address listed.  Put the udorsement text in the Subject line and add the picture as an attachment.  Mark #hotwords and @usernames with # and @, just like you would on udorse.com:

If your phone can send picture messages, you can use that too. They'll show up on udorse.com and be shared exactly like udorsements you make from the website:

Have fun!

New Tag Interface!

Hi everyone!

Over the past week we've rolled out a newer, slimmer version of our web Add a Udorsement interface that should run more smoothly on older computers and older browsers.  It should be noticeably faster and less jumpy.

Rather than marking hotwords in pink in the entry field and requiring users to select them with our Make it Hot button, we're adopting the shorthand conventions we use on Twitter. So you can mark a #hotword by putting a # in front of it, and mark a user's name by starting with an @.  So an entry like:

will become:

where @Trevor is a link to my udorsements and #EmpireStateBuilding is a link to all the udorsements of the Empire State Building.

Of course, we know you liked the Make it Hot button, so it still works:

becomes:

Hope that makes things a little easier for everyone.  Have fun!
